Cincinnati Ballet, the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and the local folk band Over the Rhine are teaming up for a weekend of performances at Music Hall next month.

The production, titled "LIVE!," runs Nov. 6 and 7. It will feature three world-premiere ballet works danced to live music played by Over the Rhine and the symphony orchestra.

Each piece draws on songs from the band's extensive catalog. The choreography was created by three internationally recognized choreographers: Young Soon Hue, David Morse and Kenneth Tindall.

"Innovation begins with curiosity about what we can create together," said Cincinnati Ballet Artistic Director Cervilio Miguel Amador. "LIVE! celebrates Cincinnati's creative spirit by bringing ballet, the music of Over the Rhine, and the sound of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra onto one stage. I hope audiences feel both a connection to this music and the excitement of experiencing it in a new way."

Over the Rhine was founded in 1989 by married couple Linford Detweiler and Karin Bergquist. The band takes its name from one of Cincinnati's best-known neighborhoods and has released fifteen studio albums.

The production marks the third time the ballet company and the band have worked together. Their earlier collaborations came in 2011 and 2014, the latter closing out Cincinnati Ballet's 50th anniversary season.

Alyssa Wang, the ballet's music director, will conduct the orchestra at every performance. She noted that the staging differs from the norm. "Usually, when the Cincinnati Symphony performs with the ballet, the orchestra is in the pit, so getting to share the stage with the band and the dancers makes this performance feel especially collaborative and alive!" Wang said.

She added that it is "exciting to bring together the world of orchestra, Over the Rhine, and ballet in such a direct way."

Performances begin at 7:30 p.m. on both nights, with an additional 2 p.m. show on Saturday, Nov. 7. More information is available on the Cincinnati Ballet's website.
